The Chicago Bears have done their part to ensure Aaron Rodgers leaves the Packers, even pursuing one of his top targets.
Before Packers fans start freaking out — no, it’s not Davante Adams. Rodgers’ favorite target is still expected to receive a long-term deal, or have the franchise tag placed upon him.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, however, is a different story entirely. Valdes-Scantling has suffered through injuries the last few years, but when he’s on the field, he’s proven himself a player that Rodgers can trust.
MVS averaged at least 15 yards per catch the last three seasons, and the Bears are lacking playmakers for Luke Getsy’s offense. It’s a perfect match in that respect. Expect Ryan Poles to continue pursuing Valdes-Scantling as free agency heats up.
Believe it or not, this isn’t just about angering No. 12.
Bears could impact Aaron Rodgers decision
The Bears new offensive coordinator — Luke Getsy — was in Rodgers corner more than most. He’ll be missed in Green Bay, especially by No. 12 himself should he decide to return. When asked about his excitement about joining the rival Bears, Getsy didn’t hold back in his plans with Chicago’s offense in a Q&A with the Bears official team website.
"“You bring a play-style mentality philosophy to the table and then evaluate what the player does best. How I’ve been brought up in this business is you build it around the quarterback first, and then you tailor everything else to match what everybody else does well. That process is just ingrained in my soul. We’re not going to just run this concept because I like it or it looks great on film. If the player can’t execute that, then we’re not going to have much success.”"
Rodgers will miss Getsy’s football mind, and tenacity in the quarterback room. He’s moving on up, and it’s something that’s expected with young coaches who impress with an all-time great at the helm. Surely, Rodgers understands the move.
However, with a locker room looking less familiar by the day, does Rodgers still feel as comfortable with the Packers as he did at the end of the season?
