Derek Carr rumors: Guessing what Washington offered for Raiders QB
The Washington Commanders reportedly checked in with the Raiders about Derek Carr. How much would they offer to acquire a star quarterback?
No team has been more publically active in their pursuit of a new quarterback in 2022 than the Washington Commanders.
They’re trying to find their guy and they’re letting everyone know it.
Part of their process was to contact teams to gauge interest in trades for their quarterback. One such team was the Las Vegas Raiders, Ben Standig of The Athletic reported.
“According to sources familiar with the situation, [Washington] made an offer for Seahawks star Russell Wilson and checked in on the Raiders’ Derek Carr.”
After Seattle dealt Wilson to the Broncos, Albert Breer revealed that the Commanders’ offer for Wilson included “high picks in the next three drafts.”
What about Carr?
What would it take for Washington to trade for Derek Carr?
Carr doesn’t compare to Wilson in terms of accolades but he’s still one of the better quarterbacks in the league. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and has thrown for more than 4,000 yards in each of the last four seasons.
It would still likely take multiple high draft picks to convince the Raiders to let him go. That would mean anything from two first-rounders to a first and a second, just to start. Washington has the No. 11 pick in the 2022 draft.
On top of that, the Commanders would need to be willing to work out a new deal with the quarterback worth upwards of $35 million per year. He is entering the last year of his current contract.
The problem Washington faces is availability. New Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels is a fan of Carr. It could take a blockbuster deal to make a trade happen at this stage.
