NFL franchise tag deadline tracker
By Mark Powell
The NFL franchise tag deadline is on March 8 at 4 p.m. ET. With that in mind, here’s who has and hasn’t received a franchise tag.
The franchise tag is an organizational tactic that keeps a player from reaching free agency. The franchise tag value varies by position, but it’s meant to serve as a one-year contract worth approximately the top of your positional market.
It does bring up several risks, including said player getting injured and hurting their overall value for when they do get to enter the open market. While that might not seem fair on the surface, such is life in an owner-friendly league.
I wrote a brief synopsis of the franchise tag here.
