After helping the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl in February, Matthew Stafford could be line for a big-time new contract.

What a year it’s been for Matthew Stafford. After never winning a postseason game with the Detroit Lions, the star quarterback changed that in a major way this past winter. Behind Stafford’s strong right arm, the LA Rams stunned countless people and won the Super Bowl.

Now, Stafford and the Rams are ready to try and go back-to-back come next season. Before Stafford gets on the field, though, he could be in line to get a new contract. According to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams are prioritizing an extension and it could be worth around $45 million a campaign.

Matthew Stafford could become one of the highest-paid players in the NFL

There’s no denying Stafford has earned himself an improved deal from the Rams. The different between him and Jared Goff can’t be measured, as Stafford went above and beyond the expectations people had for him in 2021.

Stafford clearly couldn’t be happier to be in Los Angeles, as this team really is built to potentially repeat as Super Bowl champs. There’s plenty of questions that need to be answered this offseason, including the futures of Aaron Donald and Odell Beckham Jr., but the quicker the Rams can get something done with Stafford, the better.

With Russell Wilson being traded by the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos, the NFC West figures to be a three-team race next year between, LA, Arizona and San Francisco. If the Rams are to win the division and then go on to make serious noise in the postseason, Stafford will be a big reason for that. Everyone should find out soon if he and the Rams can agree to terms on a new contract in the near future.
