5 players Raiders should draft in the first round
2. Treylon Burks
Burks’ draft stock has unfairly taken a hit after running a rather pedestrian 4.55 second 40-yard-dash at the Combine. That gives the Raiders an intriguing opportunity to draft a potential superstar wide receiver at No. 22.
The former Arkansas star is not a track guy. He’s a big-bodied, 225-pound wideout who showed real explosion working against SEC cornerbacks on a weekly basis. It’s reasonable to believe he’s just not a prospect ideally suited to light up stopwatches in a Combine setting.
McDaniels’ and the Raiders’ brain trust are smart enough to dive into the tape and judge Burks based on what he did on the field. He’s a nightmare for opposing defensive backs with his combination of size, speed, and physicality. It’s easy to envision him becoming a matchup problem for anyone trying to contain him with single coverage at the next level.
The Raiders should be holding their breath that Burks doesn’t put up a scorching 40 time at his Pro Day. If he falls to No. 22 they should sprint to the podium to bring him to Sin City.
