2022 NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks draft quarterback to replace Russell Wilson
By Brad Weiss
It seems like every year a team steps up and wins the NFC East, as we have not had a repeat champion in that division in quite some time. In 2022, it is anybody’s guess as to who it could be, but one thing is for sure, those fans of the New York Giants should be excited with all the leadership changes the organization has made going into next season.
Picking twice in the first seven picks should help them get better immediately, and after going offensive line at No. 5, they go defensive line a few picks later at No. 7. That pick is Travon Walker, an edge rusher who dominated the Combine and maybe a double-digit sack guy as soon as next season for the G-Men.
The Atlanta Falcons have work to do on both sides of the ball, but there is a lot of talent still on the roster, and the NFC South is certainly up for grabs. With Tom Brady and Sean Payton both gone, the Falcons could be a few players away from contending in the division, and they get an elite player here at No. 8 overall.
That player is Kyle Hamilton, an absolute unicorn of a safety who should come in and have an All-Pro effect for this defense. Hamilton is widely regarded as a top-3 pick in this year’s draft class, and if he escapes the first few selections, the Falcons will have a no-brainer pick here with the eighth overall selection.
Welcome to the top-10 of the 2022 NFL Draft Seattle, as they made a huge trade this week involving Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson. The Seahawks now go into draft season with Drew Lock as their starting quarterback, but at 70-years old, I do not feel Pete Carroll will have the patience of watching Lock play weekly.
That means the Seahawks should be in play with the No. 9 overall pick, and with it, they select Pitt star, Kenny Pickett. Pickett dominated in ACC play this past season and is one of the more NFL-ready quarterbacks in this draft class, so he makes sense here towards the bottom of the top-10.
The No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft belongs to the New York Jets, who will pick twice in the first ten selections this April. The Jets have been a sorry franchise for quite some time, but Joe Douglas seems like a capable general manager, and Robert Saleh is entering his second season as head coach, so things have to be looking up.
To close out the top-10 picks in April, the Jets bring in someone who can legitimately solidify their secondary, as Sauce Gardner is our first cornerback off the board. Gardner had an outstanding week down in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine, solidifying himself as the first cornerback off the board.
