2022 NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks draft quarterback to replace Russell Wilson
By Brad Weiss
Going into the 2022 NFL Draft, no team has as much draft capital as the Philadelphia Eagles, who just happened to be a playoff team last season. In terms of the NFC East, this is the team that should be the favorite going into the 2022 NFL season as well, and they appear set on Jalen Hurts as their long-term solution at quarterback.
With Hurts the guy under center for the foreseeable future, the Eagles do not have to use any of their three first-round picks on a quarterback, which is good news. Instead, they use pick No. 15 overall on a defensive back, bringing in Derek Stingley Jr., the second-best cornerback in this year’s draft class.
With three first-round picks, the Philadelphia Eagles have all eyes on them heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, and here, they make back-to-back selections. The Eagles have to revamp the secondary this offseason, and they do so by adding Derek Stingley Jr. at pick No. 15, setting the stage for them to turn to the offense here at No. 16.
The selection here is Kenyon Green, a versatile offensive lineman who should be able to start right away along this Eagles offensive line. Protecting Hurts has to be priority No. 1 for this franchise moving forward, and Green has the size and athleticism to start inside or outside for them in 2022.
When it comes to the Los Angeles Chargers, most of the talk surrounding this team revolves around Justin Herbert, their elite quarterback. Herbert is only going into his third season in the NFL but is already regarded as one of the game’s best, though he has never led his team to the playoffs.
That should change in 2022, as the Chargers got great experience last season, and have a bunch of talent returning. However, they need help along the offensive line still, so adding Trevor Penning to play opposite Rashawn Slater at the offensive tackle spots makes a lot of sense at pick No. 17 overall.
The No. 18 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft belongs to the New Orleans Saints, who have a lot of work to do this offseason. They do not have a quarterback, their Hall of Fame head coach Sean Payton stepped down after last season, and overall, there are holes on both sides of the ball.
You could take your pick with who they select here in the middle of the first round, but based on need, it would be hard for them to pass up on Garrett Wilson from Ohio State. This is a playmaking wideout that should help whoever is under center next season, as the Saints likely enter a rebuild.
