NFL free agency: 5 targets for Seahawks after Russell Wilson trade
By Scott Rogust
The Seahawks are set to have a void in the defensive backfield with Quandre Diggs hitting free agency. He is coming off a Pro Bowl season where he recorded 94 combined tackles, seven defended passes and five interceptions. In coverage, Diggs allowed 29 receptions for 406 yards and one touchdown on 44 targets, per Pro Football Reference.
Diggs could very well command some big contract offers this offseason, and the Seahawks could be left out in the cold. If that does happen, Seattle should pivot to Marcus Maye.
Yes, Maye is not the top safety on the market. That distinction belongs to Marcus Williams, who is one of the top overall free agents this offseason. Maye provides upside and can come on a cheaper contract.
Maye is coming off a 2021 season where he played just six games before being sidelined due to a torn Achilles. The safety recorded 46 combined tackles, two defended passes and one sack. In coverage, Maye surrendered 10 receptions for 199 yards and one touchdown on 21 targets.
If the Seahawks are to lose Diggs, they can bring in another option who has chemistry with Jamal Adams. That is Maye.
