In 2021, the then-defending NFC East champions added journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to the club. But he was injured in the Week 1 loss to the Chargers and did not play again. Taylor Heinicke was the main man behind center for the majority of the year. Washington’s offense finished 21st in the league in total yards per game and passing yards. And this unit managed only 34 touchdowns (13 rushing, 21 receiving) in 17 outings.

Wide receiver Terry McLaurin has emerged as the team’s most explosive threat on offense. This past season, he played and started all 17 games and finished first on the team with 77 receptions, 1,053 yards and five scores. His three-year totals read 222 grabs for 3,090 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The next leading wide receiver on the team was Adam Humphries. He finished with 41 catches and failed to reach the end zone. And he, Sam Sims and DeAndre Carter – the latter Washington’s leading punt and kickoff return artist – are all slated to become free agents.

The Kansas City Chiefs have their share of quality wideouts. Byron Pringle is a performer who could fill the gap not only on offense but special teams as well. He caught a career-best 42 passes in 2021, five for scores.
