Carson Wentz trade: Colts longstanding frustration revealed
By Ethan Lee
The Carson Wentz era apparently wasn’t much fun for the Indianapolis Colts as it is now officially over after just one season.
While Carson Wentz was only with the Indianapolis Colts for one season, that was apparently more than enough for everyone involved. The folks in Indianapolis made headlines when they moved Wentz in a monumental trade with the Washington Commanders, but based off a recent report, that was absolutely the right decision for the Colts.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Zak Keefer, some major frustrations built up during Wentz’ time in Indianapolis.
As Keefer writes, some members of the Colts were fed up with Wentz before the team started stumbling late in the season. According to Keefer’s sources, “some inside the Indianapolis Colts’ West 56th Street facility were finished with the Carson Wentz experiment long before the team’s late-season collapse.”
That doesn’t seem great.
Keefer also noted that frustrations may have started up “before the season began” and some frustration centered around what some considered to be “a lack of leadership, a resistance to hard coaching and a reckless style of play.”
That seems exceptionally not great.
Indianapolis Colts, Carson Wentz split reportedly fueled by frustrations
While some trades and transactions are often met with disappointment and bittersweet moments, it seems likely that the Colts were glad to hand Wentz off to another franchise. Based off what is included in this report, it seems safe to say that this trade isn’t one that will have folks a few years down the line missing the player who has been moved to a new team.
Frustration issues and problems within the organization aside, Wentz wasn’t even a remarkably productive quarterback this past season. In 17 games, Wentz threw for 3,563 yards (which is okay) and 27 touchdowns (which is also okay) against seven interceptions.
He ended up completing 62.4 percent of his passes for what was a very okay season, but Indianapolis needed more from their quarterback than what Wentz could provide. And now he’s with a new team.
