Major League Baseball has extended Trevor Bauer’s administrative leave connected to their investigation into sexual assault allegations that began July 2, 2021. Could this lead to a suspension for Bauer?
While Trevor Bauer will not be criminally prosecuted for allegations of sexual assault involving a San Diego woman, he is still under investigation by Major League Baseball.
According to Los Angeles Times reporter Jorge Castillo:
Major League Baseball has placed Trevor Bauer on administrative leave, per source.

The announcement Bauer’s continued administrative leave comes after the conclusion of a lockout that halted the investigation. Now that the lockout has concluded with a new collective bargaining agreement, their investigation can continue.
Here are some more specifics about Bauer’s administrative leave from The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya:
The MLBPA has agreed to extend Trevor Bauer’s administrative leave for 7 days beginning Sunday March 13 thru Saturday March 19, source says. Bauer will not report to Spring Training during that time (or prior to this Sunday). @JonHeyman and @JorgeCastillo on it.

Now that the criminal investigation has concluded without charges, could this still lead to a suspension for Bauer by MLB?
Could Trevor Bauer be suspended by MLB?
Absolutely. While Bauer will not report to camp with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the league could take the time prior to the end of his leave on March 19, to finally decide what to do regarding the player.
That decision could include a suspension.
MLB Insider Jon Heyman said this is something MLB can do:
Trevor Bauer is expected to be placed on administrative leave for a week as MLB investigates/considers possible suspension. Bauer doesn’t believe his case warrants a ban since a judge who heard the case threw it out. MLB can and has issued suspensions for non-criminal offenses.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) March 11, 2022
Bauer telling Heyman this shouldn’t warrant a ban indicates the pitcher and his legal team will fight any suspension from the league. This is not surprising as Bauer has denied any wrongdoing and a glance at his twitter timeline will show he has been more vocal since criminal charges were not filed.
How the MLB ultimately responds in Bauer’s investigation will also play into what is next for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the player. Bauer is in the midst of a three-year deal worth $102 million with the Dodgers. He can opt out after the 2022 season and will be a free agent in 2024.
Prior to the beginning of his administrative leave, Bauer played in 17 games for the Dodgers in 2021 going 8-5 in 107.2 innings.
