5 players Eagles should draft in the first round
2. Jermaine Johnson
Johnson’s draft stock has skyrocketed after the conclusion of his final collegiate season at Florida State. He’s gone from a fringe first-round pick to a player with a legitimate chance to hear his name called in the top-10.
The former Seminole has the perfect combination of length and burst off the edge to blossom into an elite sack artist at the next level. It would also be a mistake to underrate Johnson’s ability to hold up against the run. He shows a terrific ability to sift through traffic to make plays from either the defensive end or outside linebacker position.
Like Ojabo, he would be a great fit lined up next to Fletcher Cox on Philadelphia’s front line. Johnson will be best suited when left to rush the passer with little concern for anything else, but he’s got the discipline required to be a three-down player right away.
The big question on Johnson is whether or not he falls all the way to 15. Edge rushers have a habit of rising up draft boards as the event approaches. If the Eagles want to come away with him they might be required to move up a few spots in Round 1.
