Kurt Suzuki, Los Angeles Angels agree to 1 year, $1.75 million contract.

Free-agent catcher Kurt Suzuki and the Los Angeles Angels are in agreement on a one-year, $1.75 million contract, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Suzuki, 38, said in September that he would consider retiring after the 2021 season but is returning for his 16th major-league season.

In 72 games last season with the Angels, he hit .224/.294/.342 with six home runs and 16 RBI.

Suzuki returns as the Angels’ No. 3 catcher behind Max Stassi and Matt Thaiss.

Suzuki has known general manager Perry Minasian since their time together with the Atlanta Braves, with the GM holding the longtime catcher in high regard for his clubhouse presence, leadership and ability to command a pitching staff, sources said.
