The Cowboys traded Amari Cooper because he was overpaid, but now they need to replace him with one of these players in the 2022 NFL Draft.Ā

The decision to trade Amari Cooper to the Browns has been met with mixed feelings by the Cowboys’ fan base, but the organization clearly wanted to get his salary off their books. His absence does create the need for Dallas to add another pass-catcher in the draft.

The team’s front office wants to re-sign Michael Gallup and insert him in the starting lineup along with CeeDee Lamb. That gives Dak Prescott a pair of top-flight receivers to work with. What the team still needs to do is to create depth behind that star duo.

Creating a deep stable of pass-catchers could be the difference between mediocrity and a top-five offense for the Cowboys in 2022. Dallas doesn’t necessarily need to use their first-round pick on a direct replacement for Cooper, but it will be a strong consideration if an elite prospect is still on the board at No. 24.

Cowboys fans should keep a particularly close eye on the following three prospects. The first name on this list might be available when Dallas goes on the clock in Round 2.

3. Greg Dulcich

The team’s decision to place the franchise tag on Dalton Schultz might lead some to conclude they won’t be shopping for another tight end via the draft, but the Cowboys could still use a player in that spot who can stretch the field vertically.

Dulcich is a prospect who is shooting up draft boards because of his speed and ability to make big catches down the field. He isn’t much of an in-line blocker, but the Cowboys can let Schultz handle those responsibilities. Adding a versatile tight end like Dulcich who can produce big plays in the slot could really help Dallas forget all about Cooper.
