Free-agent left-handed reliever Matt Strahm and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a contract, pending physical, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Strahm, 30, posted an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings last season after missing significant time with a right knee injury. He ended the 2021 season hurt and pitched two consecutive years with an issue to that knee, but is now fully healthy and recently threw for almost 15 interested teams.

Multiple scouts in attendance used the word “electric” to describe Strahm, who received strong interest from a few teams, including the Red Sox. He marks the fourth pitcher (first reliever) that the Red Sox have signed this winter, with Michael Wacha, James Paxton and Rich Hill being the others.
