Michigan State basketball is heading to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed. Here’s how fans reacted to the bracket reveal.
The Michigan State Spartans found out their March Madness fate on Sunday with a No. 7 seed in the West region.
Tom Izzo and company were bounced in the First Four last year and will be looking to reassert themselves as a danger team in the NCAA Tournament.
The draw they got against No. 10 seed Davidson, with Duke and Gonzaga looming in their region, will make that a tough ask.
How Michigan State basketball fans reacted to NCAA Tournament bracket
Fans couldn’t help but feel that narratives were in play as the Spartans got matched up with Davidson in the first round. It just so happens that Michigan State transfer Foster Loyer leads the Wildcats at point guard.
Michigan State / Davidson is a sensational 7/10 game

Michigan State getting Davidson (Foster Loyer) and potentially Duke. Who, other than everyone, could've seen that coming.

My shocked face that #MSU is playing Davidson with a chance to play Duke. pic.twitter.com/KRll1QcbX6

LMAOOOOOOOO MSU GOT FOSTER AND THE FAREWELL TOUR?!?!?! Committee doesnt even hide it

The Spartans have met with the Blue Devils in three of the last eight NCAA Tournaments, so that rivalry may very well continue in this one. Michigan State fell to Duke in 2013 and 2015 but went through Duke in the Elite Eight in 2019.
Duke fans had some thoughts about the Spartans being in their bracket as well.
The committee just refuses to put #Duke in regions away from Michigan State. Year in and year out.

Death, taxes, Michigan State and Duke being in the same region

Meanwhile, many Michigan State fans couldn’t believe the draw rival Michigan got by comparison, despite their worse record and resume.
Michigan got off SOOOOO easy😂

Not a bracket without MSU and Duke in the same region

Regardless of what the Wolverines do, the Spartans have their work cut out for them in March Madness this year.
They’ll be heading to Greenville, South Carolina looking to turn around what was a rough ending to the season. The Spartans lost seven of their last 10 games in the Big Ten then fell in an upset to Purdue in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
