The Chiefs have the star power required to compete for a Super Bowl title next season, but how can they strengthen their roster via the 2022 NFL Draft?

Some teams enter the draft with obvious needs that require their attention in Round 1. The Chiefs aren’t in that predicament. Kansas City doesn’t have a perfect roster by any means, but they do have the flexibility to prioritize talent over positional need with the No. 30 overall selection.

Most mock drafts expect the Chiefs to nab a receiver at that spot to take some pressure off of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. That certainly could be the direction Andy Reid and the franchise’s brain trust elects to go in.

It’s also possible that they’ll look to use the valuable first-round selection on a potential difference-maker for a defense that gave up a ton of yards last season. That could come in the form of an edge rusher or possibly a versatile secondary weapon slated to help soften the likely departure of Tyrann Mathieu in free agency.

The one certainty is that Kansas City should take a big swing at a potential star in Round 1. Chiefs fans should keep a particularly close eye on the following five prospects.

5. Jameson Williams

Williams may not be ready to go when Week 1 rolls around as he recovers from a knee injury sustained during his final season at Alabama. The Chiefs are one franchise that can afford to wait on such a prodigious talent to get on the field.

Before his injury, Williams was an absolute nightmare for opposing SEC defensive backs. He’s exceptionally quick in tight spaces and has the raw speed to threaten opposing secondaries over the top. If Williams falls to No. 30 due to injury concerns the Chiefs should snap him up and congratulate one another regarding their good fortune.
