The Dallas Cowboys may have traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, but they brought in a receiver from the AFC North to bolster their depth chart.
The Dallas Cowboys were in a cap crunch entering the 2022 league year, meaning they had to part ways with some contracts to free up space. One of those players was wide receiver Amari Cooper, who the team traded to the Cleveland Browns for multiple draft picks. The Cowboys addressed the position on Friday, but was it a caliber of player to replace Cooperās production?
According to his agents, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver James Washington is signing a one-year contract with the Cowboys. The link to Washington and Dallas was actually first mentioned by former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant earlier in the week.
Former Steelersā WR James Washington is going back to his home state of Texas and signing a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, per his agents @DrewJRosenhaus and @RyanMatha.

Cowboys fill void left by Amari Cooper by signing James Washington
No, this is not a move made to replace Cooper in Dallasā offense. Rather, it is to add depth to a position that has significantly weakened following the Cooper trade and Cedrick Wilson leaving in free agency for the Miami Dolphins.
There were not many options to adequately replace Cooper, as Chris Godwin re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Allen Robinson signed with the Los Angeles Rams and JuJu Smith-Schuster agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
But, the team seems to be making CeeDee Lamb the focal point of Dallasā passing attack. Not to mention that the team re-signed Michael Gallup to a five-year, $57.5 million contract. Washington fills in as the No. 3 wideout on the roster.
In his four years in the NFL, Washington started in 25-of-60 games, where he caught 114-of-218 targets for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Even with the signing of Washington, Dallas could still use one of their Day 2 picks on a receiver, considering this yearās class is pretty deep.
