2022 is another year where there will be no perfect brackets in March Madness, thanks to Iowa State knocking off LSU.

Until next year. 2022 is another year where March Madness has no perfect bracket, and you can thank Iowa State beating LSU for that.

The Cyclones’ 59-54 victory over the Tigers ensured that anyone who filled out a bracket would not be perfect. While Kentucky’s shocking loss to Saint Peter’s on Thursday was a real buster, this one officially ends all speculation of a perfect bracket by any individual, at least for this year.

It was initially down to two pending the outcome of Illinois and Chattanooga, and once the Fighting Illini won, it all came down to this game to see if there would still be a perfect bracket by the end of the first round. Long story short, it didn’t happen.

Iowa State beating LSU ensures that 2022 is not the year that March Madness has a perfect bracket

Iowa State was essentially a two-person crew against LSU, with Tyrese Hunter scoring 23 and Izaiah Brockington scoring 19 to lead the way. No other Cyclones player scored over 10 points, as Caleb Grill had eight as the third-highest scorer.

In contrast, no LSU player scored over 20. Tari Eason chipped 18 points while Darius Days registered 14. Mwani Wilkinson and Brandon Murray each had 8. Long story short, this was a defensive battle with points coming at a premium.

Iowa State took a 24-19 lead into the half, and both teams scored the same amount of points to keep the deficit at five. By the end of the game, brackets were busted, one team was moving on, and the other was going home.

Above all, March Madness 2022 has no more perfect brackets. Two years in a row that no perfect brackets existed after the first round. Imperfection at its finest.
