2022 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: Who will shine during March Madness?
By Ian Levy
This may be a bit high for Mathurin but the Thunder need perimeter shooting in the worst way and Mathurin has the talent and skill fit to make this workable. He’s a smooth and confident outside shooter who has made 38.9 percent of his 3-pointers on 288 attempts over his two seasons at Arizona. He pairs that with a long, 6-foot-6 frame and excellent speed and vertical pop. He’s not a very polished creator at this point but his athleticism and movement shooting ability will make him a huge weapon next to playmakers like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey, in the halfcourt and in transition.
Mathurin needs to be more consistent on defense but he has excellent tools and potential at that end and, with the ability to defend 1s and 2s, can work in a lot of different lineups next to Giddey, Gilgeous-Alexander and Dort. He may not be the home run swing of someone like Murray or Shaedon Sharpe but he’s a perfect fit and the Thunder still have the potential upside of Duren and Branham to gamble with.
