Sister Jean led the Loyola Ramblers players in a prayer ahead of their NCAA Tournament opening game vs. Ohio State.

Sister Jean made her triumphant return to the March Madness world on Friday afternoon, as she led her beloved Loyola Ramblers in a moment of prayer ahead of their first-round game vs. Ohio State.

Four years ago, Loyola made an unforgettable run to the Final Four under the guidance of former head coach Porter Moser. While he now leads the Oklahoma Sooners, the 102-year-old nun remains dedicated to her team. Loyola trailed Ohio State 23-18 at halftime in a low-scoring affair in Pittsburgh. This is the No. 7 vs. No. 10 matchup, one where the Ramblers are the underdogs.

Here is Sister Jean leading her school’s beloved basketball team in prayer right before tipoff.

Loyola men’s basketball: Sister Jean leads Ramblers in moment of prayer

Even though Loyola may never be able to recapture the magical run the men’s hoops team went on four years ago, the Ramblers’ run to the Final Four and Sister Jean’s rise to national prominence is a big part of what March Madness is all about. The stories that manifest out of this one-of-a-kind, win-or-go-home tournament is what everyone around the globe seems to gravitate to.

In the years since Loyola’s run to the Final Four, the Ramblers have been the preeminent program in the Missouri Valley Conference. They have won the conference tournament three times since 2018, making the NCAA Tournament three times in the last five years. While Loyola may be a mid-major, this basketball brand continues to grow in the seasons since the unforgettable 2018 run.

It is good to see Sister Jean and the Ramblers back in the NCAA Tournament together once again.
