The first F1 qualifying of the 2022 season had drivers and teams trying to put their best foot forward. Who ended up in pole position for the Bahrain GP?

The 2022 Formula 1 season is officially underway with arguably the most anticipated F1 qualifying session in years.

This year’s Bahrain GP is a debut for the brand new car design brought on by a set of revamped technical regulations originally intended for 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the delay of those regulations coming into effect, giving teams an extra year to work on and invest in their new models.

Along with the new regs and a shuffled lineup of drivers come some new qualifying rules, including changes to tire compound strategy.

Did Red Bull build off of their strong testing performance? Did Mercedes sandbag in the preseason again? Is Ferrari a real title contender?
