Despite the high expectations and talented roster, the Auburn Tigers are out of the NCAA Tournament without even making it to the Sweet 16.
Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers looked like championship contenders right up until they absolutely fell apart. The Miami Hurricanes found a way to completely dismantle a talented Tigers team that should have been capable of making it to the Final Four.
But that’s not where the Tigers are right now. Auburn is eliminated and will be heading home to the dismay of Auburn’s fans.
While having high seeded teams unexpectedly lose in the midst of March Madness isn’t exactly uncommon, it’s stunning how the Tigers lost. Auburn looked completely outmatched and out of sorts. The Tigers seemed like they had no business competing against the Hurricanes even though Auburn appeared capable of competing for a championship this season.
Auburn lost 79-61. It was bad. For Auburn fans, that is. Miami fans had fun. Folks that enjoy rooting against Auburn also had fun.
College basketball media? They were stunned.
March Madness: Twitter reacts as Auburn Tigers crushed by Miami in NCAA Tournament
This result wasn’t really expected. For starters, Auburn was expected to be a championship contender. They should have at least made the Elite Eight.
That definitely won’t be happening this season.
No. 10 Miami vs. No. 11 Iowa State.

Jim Larranaga now has THREE Sweet 16 appearances during his tenure at Miami: 2013, 2016, and 2022. The Hurricanes upset Auburn to advance.

And Miami's perimeter?
MORE GUARDS THAN SHAWSHANK.
And this college basketball season has been bizarre. Really bizarre at times. Of course, March Madness is ramping that up a bit and the NCAA Tournament is featuring a number of teams making it further than expected.

After all the trash talk and anger between Tennessee, Auburn and Kentucky fans (lots of which has been in by mentions), it turns out we all ended up flaming out

Of course, with a result like this, the folks with memes and jokes were out in force too.
