The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly looking to trade star receiver Tyreek Hill, and Twitter is predictably losing its mind over the possibility.
End of an era in Kansas City? Perhaps.
According to multiple reports, the Kansas City Chiefs have engaged teams in serious trade talks regarding their star receiver, Tyreek Hill. Hill, 28, has been a Pro Bowler in each of his six seasons and is entering the final year of his deal. Despite reports — including FanSided’s — that Hill and the Chiefs were having positive negotiations, it appears things have fallen apart.
With Hill on the block, Kansas City must figure out the next move. The Chiefs have JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman, along with tight end Travis Kelce, but the offense would clearly be downgraded without the league’s premier weapon.
Chiefs apparently on the brink of trading receiver Tyreek Hill
Here’s a sampling of people are saying on Twitter about the situation:
Not sure if new Raiders GM Dave Ziegler designed for the Davante Adams extension to derail extension talks for a division rival and its top WR but here we are.

The #Jets are in on Tyreek Hill, sources confirm. They are among the finalists.

From what I’m told, the ball is now in Tyreek Hill’s court. What does he want? NYJ or Miami.
Jets won’t be outbid. Just a matter of what Hill prefers.
Tyreek Hill changes games. Period. Only so many people do that.

Multiple teams were approached about a potential Tyreek Hill trade, but the Jets and Dolphins emerged in recent days as the two finalists, per sources. Hill is now likely to wind up as a Jet or Dolphin.

More on potential Tyreek Hill compensation: Adams trade (for a 1st and 2nd rounder) would be the template for a deal, but Hill is such a significant centerpiece for #Chiefs offense, it may that two first round picks to get a deal done. Even with a massive Hill extension needed. https://t.co/fRpfIYBNbp

Trading Tyreek Hill would make no sense for either side from a football perspective. Hill is in the perfect system with perfect quarterback to maximize his skills. Hill is a one-of-one talent who will be impossible to replace. But business is business, man.

Without Hill, it’s hard to envision the Chiefs as significant contenders in the AFC. The conference has loaded up this offseason, with the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts all getting star starting quarterbacks to replace mediocre ones. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals have improved their offensive line in front of Joe Burrow and the Los Angeles Chargers have shored up one of the league’s worst defenses.
Then there’s the buffalo Bills, who were able to sign edge rusher Von Miller to a six-year deal worth $120 million.
The Chiefs are still a playoff-caliber team, but a championship contender? Hard to see it.
