March Madness: Top 10 coaches with most NCAA Tournament wins
By Ethan Lee
March Madness marches on and some very prominent NCAA basketball coaches keep adding to their impressive NCAA Tournament wins totals.
As March Madness keeps moving on and the Duke Blue Devils keep beating their foes, Mike Krzyzewski keeps adding to his already absurdly impressive number of NCAA Tournament wins.
Coach K has more NCAA tournament wins than any other NCAA men’s basketball coach throughout the history of the sport. Krzyzewski recently made history as becoming the first men’s basketball coach to win 100 games in the NCAA Tournament.
Interestingly enough, the legendary Duke Blue Devils coach doesn’t exactly have a true rival when comparing the number of NCAA Tournament wins he has to any of his contemporaries. While he currently has 100 wins (and that number could keep growing before he finally retires), there’s a very significant gap between the number of wins he’s accrued over the years and the man with the second-most wins.
Here are the 10 coaches with the most wins in men’s CAA Tournament history.
March Madness: Which college basketball coaches have most wins in NCAA Men’s Tournament history?
- Mike Krzyzewski – 100
- Roy Williams – 77
- Dean Smith – 65
- Jim Boeheim – 57
- Tom Izzo – 52
- Jim Calhoun – 49
- John Wooden – 47
- Bill Self – 47
- John Calipari – 46
- Lute Olson – 46
There have been a number of coaching legends throughout the history of NCAA men’s basketball and this list makes it clear just how impressive Krzyzewski’s tenure with the Blue Devils has been.
The gap between him and the second-most wins in NCAA tournament history is astonishingly wide and it seems like the record that Coach K is setting might be one that stands the test of time. It sure would be difficult for anyone to surpass that number in the relatively near future.
