As Saint Peter’s continues its widely-celebrated Cinderella run, one notable former Cinderella is reaching out and congratulating the Peacocks.
The Saint Peter’s Peacocks keep making magic happen as March Madness continues for the thrilling underdog. After beating the Kentucky Wildcats and Murray State Racers, the Peacocks found a way to take down the Purdue Boilermakers.
Now, with that win, one prominent enjoyer of making March Madness history is celebrating as the Peacocks are the first 15 seed to ever make it to the Elite Eight. One team that recently also stunned some folks to make some history is definitely enjoying seeing the Peacocks thrive against bigger programs.
If you’re not already familiar with them for whatever reason, now is a great time to meet the UMBC Retrievers, a team that really loves seeing upsets happen in March.

Four years ago, the Retrievers, a 16-seed, managed to take down the Virginia Cavaliers, a one-seed. That’s the first time an upset of a one-seed by a 16-seed had ever happened in the NCAA Tournament.
So it makes a ton of sense that the Retrievers would be all in on the Peacocks unlikely and unexpected run to the Elite Eight.
March Madness: Saint Peter’s Peacocks beat Purdue Boilermakers to advance to the Elite Eight
With the Peacocks’ monumental win over the Boilermakers, Saint Peter’s is now in uncharted territory for a team with their seeding for the NCAA Tournament. As Rodger Sherman of The Ringer points out, this is the first time a team that is seeded below the 12 spot has made it all the way to this point in March.
"Saint Peter's is the first 15-seed to make the Elite Eight" isn't even doing it justice—they'd also be the first 13 or 14! They're the first team below a 12 seed to do it!
