Jay Wright contract: How much does Jay Wright make at Villanova?
Villanova basketball head coach Jay Wright has forged a Hall of Fame career with the Wildcats and looking at his contract, it’s a bargain considering he has his team in the FInal Four for the third time since 2016.
Jay Wright has proven himself as one of the best college basketball coaches in the country at Villanova.
Since he took over in 2001, he’s won two national titles and gone to four Final Fours, most recently getting his Wildcats there in 2022.
Wright was even inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021.
So Wright is performing like one of the best. Is Villanova paying him like it?
How much does Jay Wright make?
USA Today says Wright made $6 million for the 2020-21 season. That indeed makes him one of the highest-paid college coaches.
He’s behind Kentucky’s John Calipari and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski in that regard but with Coach K retiring, he’ll soon be the second-highest-paid head coach in the country.
The Wildcats risked losing him a few years ago when UCLA reportedly offered to double his salary. At the time he was making under $4 million.
NBA teams and other college programs could make a run at Wright and convince him to start fresh somewhere new. However, Villanova has also made it clear they aren’t going to let him go anytime soon.
