Andre Drummond makes clear he’s not sticking around the Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn Nets center Andre Drummond made it abundantly clear that this will be his last season playing with the Nets as he plans to test free agency. 

When Andre Drummond opened up about his impending status as an unrestricted free agent, he shared a direct truth rather than a vague non-answer: he’s only here until the end of the season.

It was in response to the notion that the Nets should have traded Nic Claxton at the deadline with Drummond succeeding with the Nets, which still wouldn’t make sense when Drummond knows he won’t be there next season.

Of course, Drummond is assuming he will be out of Brooklyn, which wouldn’t be a stretch: he will be able to test the free agency market, and the Nets could realistically only offer him a few million to compensate him.

It makes sense that Drummond would like to seek a stable, well-paid contract considering his movement over the past two years. The two-time All-Star spent the majority of his career with the Detroit Pistons, playing there fro 2012-2020. But since he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2020, he’s been on four different teams, bouncing from the Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers to the Philadelphia 76ers before the Brooklyn Nets.

Drummond spent the past season in the backseat behind MVP frontrunner Joel Embiid, but since being traded to Brooklyn in the swap for James Harden, Drummond is back in the starting lineup again.

Drummond has clearly been considering his worth lately, evidenced when he up a peace sign like NFL star Tyreek Hill before dunking on the Miami Heat on March 26.

Drummond scored 13 points that night, while Claxton scored 10 points. Even though Drummond is the better pick now, he is honest with media and fans that they shouldn’t expect him to stay—but Claxton will likely continue to develop for the Nets as he continues to play with Kyrie Irving.
