Jacob deGrom worst-case news just came in for the Mets
New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom had an MRI on his injured shoulder and he’ll now be shut down for at least a month.
Opening Day is still a week away, but the bad news has already come in for the New York Mets. With the team hoping that Jacob deGrom could stay healthy this season, it’s looking like adversity has arrived much earlier than expected.
According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, deGrom, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury, has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right scapula. Because of this, he’ll be shut down from throwing for the next month. This is just brutal news for New York.
Jacob deGrom out for a month is awful news for the Mets
Unfortunately for deGrom and the Mets, the 2022 campaign is already looking similar to how things went last year for him. Due to multiple injuries, deGrom was only able to start 15 games for the club in 2021.
When he was healthy enough to take the bump, deGrom was pitching out of his mind. He posted a 7-2 record and an unreal 1.08 ERA. As good as he was, he just couldn’t stay healthy consistently, which kept him out of action for the most of 2021.
Everyone was ready to see deGrom take the bump on Opening Day for New York and remind the baseball world as a whole of just how outstanding he can be with the ball in his hand. The supporters over in Flushing will now have to wait at least a month for deGrom to take the field.
Because of his injury history, people are now starting to worry deGrom may be in for another long season. Obviously, the more games he misses, the more difficult it will be for the Mets to try and make the postseason.
