In one of the results of the season, Brentford have defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge despite facing a deficit at halftime.
Brentford scored four straight goals in the second half to hand the Blues just their second home defeat of the season. The result sent shockwaves across the Premier League.
Goals from Vitaly Janelt, Christian Eriksen and Yoane Wissa gave Brentford the victory, and clinched perhaps an unforgivable loss by Chelsea.
Premier League table
The table sets up as follows thanks to Chelsea’s loss to Brentford:
- Liverpool – 72 points
- Manchester City – 70 points
- Chelsea – 59 points
- Arsenal – 54 points
- Tottenham – 51 points
- Manchester United – 50 points
- West Ham United – 48 points
The Blues did have some room to spare, and while a loss to Brentford looks bad on their resume, their five-point edge over Arsenal (as things currently stand) means they have a bit of breathing room should they quickly recover.
With the win, Brentford now has 30 points, which keeps them clear of relegation territory for now.
Brentford defeats Chelsea: Fans react
While, yes, Chelsea is still locked into a Champions’ League spot for now, it’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Blues. With their Russian owner on the outs, the Ricketts’ family has displayed some interest in buying the team, despite crying poor with MLB’s Chicago Cubs during the lockout. Fans have protested their interest, even before Saturday’s game.
Chelsea fans protest the Ricketts family’s bid to buy the club before their match against Brentford.

After the defeat, however, EPL fans turned their attention to the on-field result, trolling Chelsea for failing to defeat a team near the bottom of the table on their home pitch.

Conceding 4 goals at home to Brentford is embarrassing. Only managing to score 1 goal against Brentford at home is embarrassing

Embarrassing all round today.

Perhaps Tuchel should have focused on Brentford more than Arteta’s Manager of the Month award.

There were plenty more where that came from.
As Chelsea faces an uncertain future, a loss to one of the bottom teams in EPL sure won’t help matters. Brentford won the day, with perhaps the most stunning result of the season so far.
