Lebbeus Overton becomes the latest five-star to commit to the Texas A&M football program.

The top-rated recruiting class just got even better, as five-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton has committed to the Texas A&M football 2022 recruiting class.

Overton reclassified for 2022 after being the top prospect for 2023. He picked the Aggies over the Oregon Ducks and the in-state Georgia Bulldogs for his commitment. Overton becomes the fifth five-star added to Jimbo Fisher’s No. 1 ranked 2022 recruiting class. Even though he reclassified, Overton’s talent should help him achieve some early playing time.

“After my first unofficial visit there, I had a good feel of things, and that is where I met [defensive analyst] Nick [Williams], and he introduced me to the program,” said Overton to ESPN.

The clock is now ticking for Fisher to not only get the Aggies to the SEC Championship Game but to win a national title.

Texas A&M football adds another five-star in defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton

Overton was the type of player who would have been the crown jewel of any recruiting class had he not reclassified. At Texas A&M, he’s the latest five-star recruit to join the best collection of talent in any recruiting class. For him to pick Texas A&M, it shows he believes Fisher has the Aggies close to competing for and winning a national title.

If the Aggies can overtake the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC West, get to Atlanta and beat the Dawgs on pretty much their turf, they can beat anybody in the country. While Fisher should be applauded for going big-game hunting, he has to put it all together.

The best path for success for Texas A&M is to have a great 2022 season and build off it in recruitment. No, the Aggies do not have to get to Atlanta this fall, but anything short of a 10-2 season and a New Year’s Six bowl berth is not going to cut it. They need to get back to the level they were playing at during the 2020 campaign when they were the first team out of the playoff.

Being able to steal Overton out of Georgia is huge, but games are won and lost on the field of play.
