Will Oscar Tshiebwe return to Kentucky basketball next season?
Oscar Tshiebwe had an unforgettable first season with Kentucky basketball. Will there be a second or will he leave for the NBA Draft?
Oscar Tshiebwe now has about as many Player of the Year awards as fingers after picking up the Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year award on Sunday.
He’s a consensus All-American and a record-setter.
The one thing we don’t yet know about him is if he’ll be an NBA Draft prospect as well.
Will Oscar Tshiebwe return to Kentucky basketball next season?
The good news for Kentucky fans is that Tshiebwe returning definitely seems on the table.
“I’ve been praying about it and I know I have a big decision to make. It’s all up to God,” Tshiebwe said on Sunday.
The exciting bit about Tshiebwe’s comments on CBS Sports Network has to do with his experience of Kentucky.
“It would be great to be in blue again because I love the place, I love the fans, I love everything about Kentucky,” he said. “But whatever decision God has told me to do that’s what I’m going to do.”
Oscar Tshiebwe NBA draft stock
Tshiebwe’s draft stock is one of the biggest arguments for the big man coming back to Kentucky for another season. He simply isn’t moving the needle for the NBA.
Recent mock drafts from Bleacher Report and USA Today feature Tshiebwe in the second round. Finding him in a first-round mock is downright rare.
That could change if he declares for the draft and makes more an impression in evaluations but it doesn’t seem that he’s ever going to be more than a fringe first-rounder in this cycle.
Coming back would give him the opportunity to make even more of a name for himself while pursuing greater team success in the NCAA Tournament.
