It’s pretty obvious the Browns are going to be without Watson for a few weeks to start the season. This is what happens when a team trades for a quarterback while facing 22 different accusations of sexual misconduct. So, the Browns know this might not be the season to go all in. They can use that strategy to make smart decisions in the draft.

John Metchie seemed like a lock to be a first-round pick this year, but he suffered a torn ACL towards the end of the season, and he’s going to miss workouts prior to the draft. He was passed on the Alabama depth chart by Jamison Williams, who turned out to be a special talent. Metchie might not be considered “special” in the same breath as previous Alabama wide receivers, but he’s as solid as they come.

Metchie grabbed 96 balls for north of 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He wasn’t looking to make the big play, but he was always making the necessary play. After the Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to the Browns, they need more reliable receivers around him.

He’s going to make people miss in open space, and he can even get defensive players to miss tackles. It took him a little while to blossom, but he is someone who can grow into a star receiver in the right situation. The Browns seem like that situation. They have room to be patient with his recovery while growing chemistry with Watson.
