It looks like the Chicago Cubs had a monster offer on the table for Carlos Correa, but that contract never made its way to him.

The Minnesota Twins surprised everyone when they were able to sign Carlos Correa to a monster three-year deal. The expectation was that he’d end up either with the Cubs or Yankees, while a reunion with the Astros was also being eyed.

Minnesota won the sweepstakes, but apparently, Chicago tried signing him to a mega-deal as well.

Per the MLB Network’s Stephen Nelson, the Cubs were ready to give him a seven-year contract, but the offer was never presented to Correa due to his switch in agents.

The Chicago Cubs had high interest in signing Carlos Correa

This is unreal. Correa made the call to have Scott Boras represent him. The Cubs, per Nelson, were eyeing a seven-year agreement worth more than $30 million per campaign. However, Correa never received news of this. The next thing everyone knew, the star shortstop decided on the Twins.

That has got to be a heartbreaking update for Cubs fans everywhere. So many people in Chicago were hoping that Correa would make his way to Wrigley Field. He’s one of the best shortstops in the game and has the kind of power at the dish that gives opposing pitchers anxiety.

He could have done wonders in the NL Central. Instead, Correa has taken his talents to the AL and Twins fans are jacked up about what he’ll be able to do starting on Friday in Game 1 against the Mariners. Meanwhile, for Cubs nation, they’ll be left wondering what could have been if Correa would have signed with Chicago.
