Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Ryota Murata fight card, start time, live stream
Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Ryota Murata fight card, start time, stream guide.
This Saturday, fight fans will have to be up early as IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin (41-1) will be facing WBA champion Ryota Murata, live from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, JP. Not only is the winner a unified champion, but if Golovkin comes out victorious, he has a September fight signed to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-1-2).
Golovkin, who turns 40 on Friday, will have to bring his best as he will be on Murata’s home turf. Although most fans would have liked to see Golovkin more often inside the ring, in 2020, he fought just once against Kamil Szeremeta (22-2-1). We saw glimpses of vintage “GGG” in that fight as he led with that stiff jab and worked the body to set up his combinations. Will the thought of a future fight with “Canelo” distract him from Murata? We will certainly find out on Saturday.
Murata is an interesting fighter as he is widely popular in Japan, which is why the fight is taking place there. Although he is the WBA champion, he hasn’t fought anyone and defended the title since December 23, 2019. That night he fought Steven Butler (29-3-1) and was victorious by way of third-round knockout. Murata will have to shake off the ring rust early against the champion from Kazakhstan.
In the co-main, undefeated WBO flyweight champion Junto Nakatani (22-0) defends his title against Ryota Yamaguchi. This past September, Nakatani scored an impressive fourth round TKO victory against top contender Angel Acosta (22-2) .
