Ronald Acuña wasn’t going to allow a late-night rumor about the alleged drama between himself and Freddie Freeman to spoil his Opening Day joy.

Baseball is back, and Ronald Acuña isn’t going to allow anyone to rain on his parade.

The Atlanta Braves open their defense of the World Series this week, but the start of the new season isn’t coming without a little drama. Specifically, a rumor began to swirl in the late-night hours heading into Opening Day that the new Braves star had beef with the legend he’s succeeding as the face of the franchise.

Acuña was reportedly heard slandering Freddie Freeman on a recent Instagram Live and claimed that there was tension between the two during their time in the Atlanta clubhouse together.

“I won’t miss Freddie Freeman. We had friction, he didn’t care when I was plunked. Freddie was overbearing and he wasn’t someone I could talk to ever”, Acuña said, according to Pujols’ translation.

The barb comes after an offseason of drama surrounding whether or not Freeman would return to the Braves or if he would take his talents elsewhere in free agency. He ended up deciding on the latter, signing a massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a move that is now being shone in a different light thanks to the alleged beef.

Acuña, however, was quick to deny the claim and responded to many of the Tweets spreading the quote.

Freeman’s farewell season in Atlanta featured a World Series victory but not a whole lot of Acuña. The Braves superstar missed almost the entire year with a knee injury and wasn’t able to be a part of sending his teammate out on a high note with October glory.

If there’s any shock over the allegations of beef it’s likely because this is the first anyone outside of the clubhouse is hearing of it. Nothing about the Braves, or the relationship between players in the dugout, seemed to suggest there was tension. In fact, the Baby Braves being led by the stoic veteran leadership of Freeman was one of the team’s lovely charms.

Acuña’s very swift denial of these claims, which he didn’t have to deny since he no longer shares a clubhouse with Freeman, should tell Braves fans all they need to know. Or, at the very least, settle some dust so that Opening Day’s World Series ceremony can be enjoyed.
