A new team just entered the Tyrann Mathieu sweepstakes
The New Orleans Saints are now facing some competition to try and land the services of star safety Tyrann Mathieu.
Standout safety Tyrann Mathieu is still looking for a new home. Despite Frank Clark hoping a return to the Kansas City Chiefs will go down, that’s a long shot and other organizations are working to get him to sign.
The New Orleans Saints had emerged as a sexy option for the defensive back, but they’re not alone. According to Ian Rapoport, the Eagles held a virtual visit with Mathieu on Thursday. Now, people in Philadelphia are hoping Howie Roseman can work his magic.
Tyrann Mathieu signing with the Eagles would be a big get for Philly
Mathieu was hoping to return to Kansas City next season, but the team signing Justin Reid to a three-year contract means he’ll more than likely have to find a different team. The Saints make sense, as Mathieu would obviously love to play for his hometown team.
He’s still a legend in Louisiana following his brilliant college days in Baton Rouge for LSU. However, the Eagles aren’t going to let the three-time All Pro head to New Orleans without putting up a fight. Mathieu could end up having more teams show interest as well. He had previously been linked with a potential move to Pittsburgh.
Last season, Mathieu was a Pro Bowler after recording 76 total tackles, six pass deflections and three interceptions. He was fighting back tears after the loss to the Bengals when asked about his future with Kansas City.
While he may have been sad in the past, the Eagles could make him incredibly happy with a lucrative offer. Perhaps the Saints will top that too. His free agency will be something to watch closely.
