2022 NFL Mock Draft: 2 quarterbacks land in the top-10
By Brad Weiss
The Washington Commanders will try and do what the Indianapolis Colts could not do last season, and that is win with Carson Wentz as their quarterback. It will be interesting to see how Wentz does in his new surroundings, as it seems that he is nothing like the quarterback who was a near MVP contender a few years ago.
Washington will be a fresh start for him, and with pick No. 11, they get him an elite weapon on the outside to team with Terry McLaurin. That weapon is Garrett Wilson, who I believe will be the first wideout off the board due to the injury to Jameson Williams.
The Minnesota Vikings are going to roll with Kirk Cousins again next season, as the veteran signal-caller was given a vote of confidence by the new regime. With the need for a quarterback off the board, the Vikings can turn their attention to the defensive side, and they do so by bringing in a future star in Derek Stingley Jr.
Stingley Jr. was widely considered the best cornerback prospect in this draft class for quite some time but has two so-so seasons at LSU to close out his career. If he reaches his potential at the next level, getting him at No. 12 overall is a steal.
The Houston Texans now hold the No. 13 overall pick in the first round as well, as they traded away former Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns. We will see what Watson brings to the table for the Browns, but for the Texans, his leaving enables them to solidify their offensive line.
The pick here at No. 13 is Ikem Ekwonu, a player who some feel could end up in the top-10 before all is said and done. He is one of the top-3 offensive linemen in this draft class and could be used on the outside, or in the interior of the offensive line at the next level.
The Baltimore Ravens are a team that figures to be a part of the playoff picture next season, as they continue to build their roster around Lamar Jackson. Jackson is a special talent, and had he not dealt with injuries last season, I believe the Ravens would have been one of the last teams standing in the AFC.
Turning our attention to next season, the team needs help in the interior of their defensive line, and they get the best defensive tackle in this class with pick No. 14. That pick is Jordan Davis, a player who turned heads at the NFL Combine, and is going to be an absolute force at the next level.
