The Masters leaderboard after Round 3: Scottie Scheffler’s lead dwindles
After 54 holes of demanding golf at Augusta National Golf Club, we look at The Masters leaderboard after Round 3 with Scottie Scheffler hanging on.
We’re just 18 holes away from crowning a new champion at The Masters. After the wind-swept Friday rounds, it seemed as if Scottie Scheffler might run away with things at Augusta National Golf Club. While most players tried to just survive, the 25-year-old Texan with three wins in his previous five starts shot a 67 that gave him a five-shot lead.
However, the wind continued on Saturday and, while Scheffler added to his lead early, the back-nine got a little bit squirrely. He was 2-over on the final nine holes, including an immaculate bogey save on the 18th hole, and allowed the scarce chasers within striking distance at least the thought that they could maybe run him down on Sunday.
So with the final round in view, let’s take a look at the leaderboard as we go into the home stretch before someone puts on the Green Jacket.
The Masters leaderboard after Round 3

T41. Jon Rahm | +7
T41. Tiger Woods | +7
T45. Patrick Cantlay | +8
Scheffler is still very much in control of the tournament but, at the end of the day, he saw his lead shrink. After entering the third round with a five-stroke advantage, his 1-under round plus Smith’s 4-under round have him only ahead by three strokes going into the final 18 holes.
All told, it does feel like a two (potentially three) horse race coming into the final round. If Scheffler’s shaky back-nine carries into Sunday, perhaps that changes. On the whole, though, it would be a shock to see someone outside of the final pairing get the victory and slip on the Green Jacket.
