Georgia. 18. Pick Analysis. Defensive Tackle. Devonte Wyatt. player. 54. Scouting Report

The Eagles are going to wait for the best player available with their first pick because they are going to do a slight reach with pick number 18. However, Devonte Wyatt fills a need and has the opportunity to fill such an important position for the Eagles. The Eagles still have Fletcher Cox, but they are planning to play the 3-4 defense, and they can use a guy to clog up in the middle to open the door for Cox to get sacks.

Not only can Wyatt clog up the middle, but he has the speed to really make an impact in the backfield. Wyatt was a big reason for the Georgia defense playing so well down the stretch. He was able to get through for three solo tackles in both games against Alabama this past season. Wyatt was doing all the dirty work for Georgia’s defense, which allowed just 79 rushing yards per game. Only Wisconsin allowed fewer in the entire country.

Wyatt often gets through the offensive line and breaks up plays before they even start. His lateral quickness might be as good as any defensive lineman in this draft. Sure, some have him going later in the first round, but the Eagles are getting a top-20 talent right exactly where they are supposed to.

Coming out of the first round of the draft with two defensive players might surprise some Eagles fans as the offense needs help around Jalen Hurts, but these two players are too good to pass up. This could set the Eagles up for the next era of success.
