White Sox: Everything we know about Frankie Montas trade rumor
By Ethan Lee
Will the Chicago White Sox make a trade for Oakland Athletics pitcher Frankie Montas? How likely is the possible trade?
The Chicago White Sox are dealing with some pretty bad luck right now, but would some rough injury news lead them to enter into a headline-grabbing trade? With Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito on the sidelines, the White Sox would benefit from getting some help pitching.
But will they be getting that help thanks to a trade in the relatively near future?
In a tweet, Héctor Gómez, citing Mike Rodriguez, said the White Sox are close to making a pretty significant trade happen. According to Gómez’s tweet, Chicago is apparently close to trading for Oakland Athletics pitcher Frankie Montas.
All that said, there’s a chance this trade absolutely does not happen. FanSided’s Robert Murray says the trade is “highly unlikely.”
Will the Chicago White Sox acquire Frankie Montas in trade with Oakland Athletics?
While the trade would help Chicago out, it may not happen at all. If it were to happen, the club would end up getting a pretty talented pitcher.
Montas and the White Sox are actually familiar with each other, so any possible trade would be incredibly fitting given where Montas got his MLB start early on in his career. As it turns out, Chicago helped give Montas a shot at competing in the big leagues and Montas made his MLB debut with the White Sox in September 2015.
During the 2021 season, Montas managed to start in 32 games and posted a 3.37 ERA through 187 innings pitched. 2021 was the first season during which Montas was able to really show just how good he could be and it was a great demonstration that Montas is fully capable of being a full-time starter.
