Angels intentionally walked Corey Seager with based loaded and Twitter was confused

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim decided to walk Corey Seager despite the bases being loaded and folks on Twitter have some thoughts on the matter.

When facing off against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim made an incredibly interesting choice. With the bases loaded early in the game, the Angels chose to intentionally walk Corey Seager.

As the tweet from Bally Sports Southwest put it, the Angels are treating Seager as if he’s Barry Bonds.

It was absolutely a choice to walk in a run while facing Seager. In fact, Joa Maddon’s decision to give Seager the free pass was the first time a manager ordered an intentional walk with the bases loaded in a game they trailed since 1881 when Buffalo Bisons manager Jim O’Rourke did it.

Maddon simply felt walking Seager was better than taking the risk of him getting a hit and driving in two or more. After all, one is less than two-four.

The Angels, often on the receiving end of criticism from fans across MLB for the way they are never seen to win at a high level despite having two truly great players in Mike Tourt and Shohei Ohtani, are facing an abundance of criticism once more.

The situation is definitely something that caught people’s attention. It’s an odd choice and it’s a choice that people don’t really want to make.

Simply giving up a run like this is something that won’t make many Angels fans all that excited about their team.

It was an odd choice by the Angels, but it might not ultimately matter in this game. Because the Angels took the lead and Maddon may have the last laugh.
