Look at new Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer giving his mentor Mike Krzyzewski a sweet little puppy dog named Coach as a retirement gift from the coaching profession.

With the Mike Krzyzewski era of Duke basketball ending in New Orleans in the Final Four, new Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer gave his mentor perhaps the best retirement gift ever: Coach K has a new puppy dog … named Coach!

While Coach K certainly had his critics over his 40-year run leading Duke, he has plenty of time on his hands to raise this sweet little dog in retirement. Who doesn’t love dogs? Clearly, this gift had to have been run by his wife Mickie, as taking on the responsibilities of a growing puppy is a huge undertaking. Regardless, this is totally wholesome dog content the entire family can enjoy.

Duke basketball: Jon Scheyer gives Coach K a puppy as a retirement gift

The former West Point point guard and Bobby Knight protege ran a tight ship in Durham for over 40 years. It took what it took to transform Duke from a decent ACC program into a hated national power. No matter how much college basketball fans loved, or hated, Coach K, the respect he garnered from the basketball world was always there. He changed the lives of so many men.

While there is no way Scheyer will ever live up to the expectations Duke fans will place upon him as Coach K’s hand-picked successor, he inherits a program that should remain excellent for years to come. He played for Krzyzewski and coached under him as well. More importantly, Scheyer has long been Coach K’s ace recruiter. If he can be tactically sound on the hardwood, Duke will be fine.

By not having to coach any more, look for Coach K to spend more time with his new buddy, Coach.
