Packers must end ridiculous NFL Draft streak to appease Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers need to use one of their two first-round picks on a wide receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft to appease two-time reigning league MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

If the Green Bay Packers do not take a wide receiver in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Aaron Rodgers should abruptly retire in spite.

Not since 2002 have the Packers used a first-round pick on a wide receiver, a running back or a tight end. This is the longest streak by any NFL franchise in the Common Draft era. The last time the Packers drafted a skill-position player in the first round, Aaron Rodgers was about to graduate from high school. With picks No. 22 or No. 28 this spring, the Packers must end this absurd streak.

While there might be greater value in drafting a high-end wide receiver in day two of the draft, it would be nothing short of organizational malpractice to not offset losing Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders with either of these top-32 selections.

At this point, it really does not matter if the Packers have historically done well selecting wide receivers in day two, or even day three, of any NFL Draft. They need to be all-in on getting their best and most important player a second Lombardi Trophy before he exits his prime and rides off into the sunset. The Packers have not even been to the Super Bowl since the 2010 NFL season.

Given that the Packers had the best record in the NFC last year, one would suggest they will have one of the most complete rosters in the league again. Therefore, they can technically reach on a receiver with one of their two first-round picks. What Green Bay has to understand is that the instant Rodgers retires, the team will fall off a painful cliff, as Jordan Love is absolutely not the guy.

Ultimately, Green Bay needs to look at the likes of Chris Olave out of Ohio State, Treylon Burks out of Arkansas or even George Pickens out of Georgia. As long as the Packers go with a wide receiver before the end of the first round, then nobody should care what they do in the rest of the draft. This pick is all about taking a home-run cut in an attempt to give Rodgers the support he needs.
