Blue Jays fan turned away for ‘critical’ sign of umpire Jeff Nelson
A Toronto Blue Jays fan took to Twitter that he wasn’t allowed to watch a game this weekend because of his sign criticizing Jeff Nelson.
Baseball fans are getting more and more creative with signs they’re displaying at ballparks, but that doesn’t mean they can get away with anything. Take a Toronto Blue Jays fan this weekend for example.
Per this Twitter account, Toronto supporter CJ Hajer was on his way to the Blue Jays vs. Oakland matchup on Sunday afternoon, but his sign calling out umpire Jeff Nelson prevented him from being able to walk in. This has people losing their minds on Twitter.
Blue Jays fan turned away for Jeff Nelson sign
You’ve got to give this guy some credit, as he got pretty darn creative with his sign. Despite that, security at Rogers Centre deemed that it was too critical of Nelson, which is why he was turned away from being able to enter the stadium with it.
The fact that security said the sign is saying Nelson is doing a bad job, and not letting Hajer attend the game because of it has people up in arms. Is Nelson that sensitive about things? If you ask Hajer, he should have been able to walk in no problem and a lot of people are agreeing with him.
Both teams are 5-4 on the year entering Sunday’s matchup, with Oakland recording a 7-5 win over Toronto on Saturday. A lot of fans were not happy with Nelson’s performance, including him ejecting Charlie Montoyo, and now more people are blasting him and Toronto security due to what happened on Sunday. Now, though, Hajer knows what he can and can’t bring to the Rogers Centre if he wants to attend a future game.
