Former Cubs World Series champion Jake Arrieta plans to announce retirement

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher and NL Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta reveals that he plans on retiring from baseball.
Jake Arrieta played a huge part in the Chicago Cubs finally ending their 106-year World Series drought and winning the Commissioner’s Trophy in 2016. Now, Arrieta revealed that he will no longer be appear on an MLB mound.
During an appearance on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast, Arrieta revealed that he plans on announcing his retirement from the game of baseball after 12 seasons in MLB.

Arrieta was a fifth-round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles back in 2007, where he made his debut in 2010. After four seasons with the team that drafted him, Arrieta was traded to the Cubs in the middle of the 2013 campaign.
2015 was where Arrieta made a name for himself as one of the game’s best starting pitchers. Through 33 starts, he led the league with 22 wins, four complete games and three shutouts, all the while recording a 1.77 ERA, a 0.865 WHIP and 236 strikeouts over 229.2 innings. As a result, Arrieta won the NL Cy Young award.
In 2016, Arrieta recorded a 3.10 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 190 strikeouts over 197.1 innings (31 starts). That postseason run to the World Series title, the right-hander led the Cubs to two wins in four starts, posting a 3.63 ERA and 1.07 WHIP.
After the 2017 season, Arrieta signed a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. Last season, he split time between the San Diego Padres and the Cubs.
Arrieta has a 115-93 record, a 3.98 ERA and 1,433 strikeouts over 285 career appearances.
While his career may be over, fans will forever remember what he brought to the game of baseball when he took the mound.
