5 Dodgers who won’t be on the roster by May 1
Alex Vesia
A 26-year-old lefty, Vesia has pitched two innings in two games, striking out two batters with a 0 ERA.
Vesia uses a four-seam fastball and a slider. The fastball averages 92 mph with a 12.7-inch vertical drop and 98% active spin. The slider averages 84.7 mph with 33.3-inches of vertical drop and an active spin of 37%.
Vesia was added to get some major league experience but will be better served to return to the minor leagues in order to get some significant time on the mound working toward getting stretched out.
Getting added to the opening day, with an expanded roster would suggest the Dodgers think highly of Vesia and want him to be successful with the club. He will not be arbitration-eligible until 2024 and will be a free agent in 2027.
This experience will be good for Vesia but he will definitely be heading to the minor leagues. The experience will serve as motivation for the young pitcher who will undoubtedly have a new set of goals to improve his stock as a pitcher in the organization.
