The Chicago Cubs blew up the roster last summer, but have gotten off to a solid start in 2022. However, there are some fatal flaws that will come back to bite the Cubs as the season progresses.
The Chicago Cubs have been one of the more surprising teams to start off the 2022 season. After trading away Javier Báez, Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo last July, the Cubs were thought by many to be cellar-dwellers in the National League this season.
The Cubs, however, have started out the season with a winning record and are actually tied atop the National League Central Division with their bitter rivals the St. Louis Cardinals. Chicago’s fast start has many fans in the Windy City wondering if the Cubbies could make a run at the postseason in 2022.
What 3 fatal flaws will come back to bite the Cubs?
The Cubs have a +9 run differential and are second in the NL in batting average (.277) and OPS (.803). There’s also rookie phenom Seiya Suzuki who has wowed the crowds at Wrigley Field and leads the league with a 321 OPS+.
But before the Chicago faithful get too excited, I think it’s fair to point out a few of the team’s fatal flaws. Let’s not forget, the Cubs were picked by an overwhelming majority of experts, pundits, and even their own fans to finish third or even fourth in the NL Central.
So while the jubilation is at a fever pitch in Wrigleyville for the moment, that could all come tumbling down if these three fatal flaws are realized as the 2022 season unfolds.
