Eloy Jimenez injury: Latest White Sox update doesn’t sound promising

Chicago White Sox slugger Eloy Jimenez was carted off the field against the Twins. While his injury won’t be season-ending, the update isn’t promising.

From the outset, Jimenez will miss at least 6-to-8 weeks, per the White Sox. That’s not an ideal starting point, but the team and Jimenez hope he can avoid any major procedures or surgery on his hammy.

Jimenez received an MRI on Saturday. This is far from the first ailment the 25-year-old has been forced to deal with, as he ruptured his left patella tendon earlier in his career.

“Thinking about what he’s going to go through and deny a chance to play, it just breaks your heart,” Tony La Russa said after the Sox lost. “It reduces the importance of losing the game when you lose a player.”

White Sox: How long will Eloy Jimenez be out?

Jimenez will undergo further testing in Chicago, as the White Sox are on the road right now. 6-8 weeks is the preliminary estimate, which given how serious his injury looked at the time, might actually be a positive.

Yet, missing a young phenom like Jimenez for any stretch of time is tough, especially for a team as banged up as the White Sox. Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito remain out for a shorthanded pitching staff, not to mention the likes of Yoan Moncada, Luis Robert and others.

Jimenez was hitting just .229 at the time of his injury with one home run on the season.
