Eddie Hearn discusses the future of Dillian Whyte after suffering a knockout loss to Tyson Fury.

We are a little over 48 hours removed from the uppercut seen and heard worldwide, which was thrown by WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (32-0-1) and received by top contender Dillian Whyte (28-3). That punch sent the 94,000 plus fans at Wembley Stadium in London, U.K, into a frenzy and further solidified Fury’s place in boxing as one of the best to lace them up.

After the fight, all of the attention was on Fury and his potential plans against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and WWE superstar Drew McIntyre. The fighter who suffers defeat often is forgotten, and you won’t hear from him until months later.

Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sports and Whyte’s promoter, recently checked in with Ak & Barak from the DAZN Boxing show to update everyone on Whyte. When asked about the condition of Whyte, Hearn told Ak & Barak, “I only messaged him this morning (Monday) as the last thing you want is for people to be messaging you and telling you to keep your head up.”

Eddie Hearn & Dillian Whyte plan to regroup after knockout loss to Tyson Fury

Hearn continued, “I viewed the fight as a fan more than anything. Dillian is a friend of mine, and we weren’t involved in the fight. If I’m being honest, I didn’t like what I was seeing at the press conference and weigh-in. I felt like Tyson Fury did a good job to befriend him at those events when we know Dillian’s greatest asset is his ruggedness and the ability to put fear into people.”

Hearn later went into the fight and the knockout that was trending all over social media this past weekend. The question that everyone wants to know is what is next for Whyte? When asked, Hearn said, “ I don’t know. It was well documented that it was a fantastic payday. He’s made a lot of money, but he can still be involved in some great fights. Can he go and win a heavyweight championship? Maybe, when the dust settles and all these belts fragment. He is a very good heavyweight, but he had the wrong mindset in that fight, in my opinion; so did AJ (Anthony Joshua) when he boxed (Oleksandr) Usyk.”

As Whyte’s promoter, Hearn has plans to get his fighter back in the mix once the heavyweight picture clears up within the next six months. Can the 34-year-old Whyte work his way back to being a heavyweight contender? It’s possible, but in the meantime, he will need to rest and see how the rest of the division looks once he is ready to put the gloves back on.
